Gauge: 14 sts = 4 in / 10 cm

Needles: 5 mm (size 8 U.S.) –double pointed needles
OR size to obtain gauge
stitch marker
darning needle
Special Instructions:
m1: pick up the stitch below the last stitch knitted and knit this stitch through the back loop, twisting the stitch.
CB4: slip two stitches onto cable needle and hold in back of work; knit two stitches; knit two stitches from cable needle.
CO 7 sts dividing them between 3-dpn. Place marker at the beginning of the row.
Rnd 1: knit - 7 sts
Rnd 2: *k1, m1* - repeat ** around - 14 sts
Rnd3: knit
Rnd 4: *k1, m1, m1, k1* – repeat ** around - 28 sts (the first m1 is made from the stitch below the first stitch, the second m1 is made from the stitch below the second stitch).
Rnd 5: knit
Rnd 6: *k1, m1, k2, m1, k1* – repeat ** around - 42 sts
Rnd 7: *P1, k2, p1, k3* — repeat ** around - 42 sts
Rnd 8: *P1,K1,m1,m1, k1, p1, k3* – repeat ** around - 54 sts
Rnd 9: *P1,k4, p1, m1, k3, m1* — repeat ** around - 66 sts
Rnd 10: *P1, CB4, p1, k5* – repeat ** around - 66 st
Rnd 11: *P1, k4, p1, m1, k5, M1* – repeat ** around - 78 st
Rnd 12: *P1, k4, p1, k7* – repeat ** around - 78 sts
Rnd 13: *P1, k4, p1, k7* – repeat ** around - 78 sts
Rnd 14: *P1, CB4, p1, k7* – repeat ** around - 78 st
Continue to repeat rounds 11 through 14 until hat measures 6″ from crown or desired length. Then knit 5 rounds in stockinette and bind off loosely in knitting.
