60 years ago yesterday, Nagasaki suffered the devastation wrought by an atomic bomb.

Hoping that history will never repeat itself in this instance, we took Jessica, Alle, and Olivia to Hyde Park on a visit to Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelts’ home.
It was a wonderful day that opened the door to many interesting discussions about such things as, “Where do banks get their money?” and “What lead our country out of the Great Depression?”
Did you know, Eleanor was a big knitter?
It was noted that she was rarely seen without needlework in her hands.

I whole heartedly believe in making socks, not war.

So I’ve made socks out of Noro Silk Garden Sock yarn,
and then used Noro SGS to make the Swallowtail Shawl
which lead me to another, rounder, shawl experience: Girasole.
I’m having a wonderful time knitting this. I began it a week ago last Thursday at Susan’s house* and it’s so engaging, I’m not even tempted by other patterns. In fact, I’m enjoying this so much, I may even knit another one (maybe in Jamieson Spindrift?). I guess the key is being informed enough to choose which experiences are worth repeating.
* gratuitous plug for the Martha’s Vineyard Fiber Farm. Hi Susan and Erin!

HYDE PARK! That’s it! I was trying to remember the name of this place last Monday and it was at the tip of my brain.
I love the patriotic needles–hee hee!
Love the shawl–the color reps are beautiful!
I’m obsessed with circular shawls right now. It’s both exhilarating and terrifying!
