When Bad things happen to good sweaters
Jan 8th, 2009 by jennifer
Here’s the scene: camping on Mount Washington in December… sitting too close to the fire, you don’t realize that the burning smell may be your clothing…
Here’s a close-up of the damage
At the time, I told M that I’d prefer to knit him an entirely new sweater rather than repair the damage. This is what happened next:
Sigvaldi in Lopi
But then I felt bad for the toasted sweater and cut the bottom off it. I didn’t have any of the white or black yarn left and M made the decision that it wasn’t worth the time and money to buy more yarn just to recreate the pattern.
I cut the yarn right above the burned part, unraveled the sweater and picked up the stitches. Then I knit downward. It doesn’t have the black and white pattern on the bottom, but it’s okay.
Here’s a little bit of my holiday knitting:
Jessye in Halcyon by Lisa Lloyd
Olivia in Amanda by Lisa Lloyd
some mittens (I made three pairs of thrummed mittens and one pair of two color mittens) and a bunch of other things
More next time…

The replacement sweater is gorgeous and I love that you repaired the burned one. Now there are 2 awesome icelandic sweaters!
Oh wow! You’ve been busy!!! All those lovely sweaters!!! And I can’t believe you knit a replacement sweater AND repaired the toasty one!
ekkk about the sweater but great save!!
