That’s the Plan: Rule the World

I had to upgrade the wireless network at work yesterday. If you’ve ever installed a network, you know that you need to give it a name. I usually name it the business’s name, but I was in a mood yesterday. So whenever anyone at work is searching to connect to the netwook they will be looking for World Domination.
Julie didn’t think it was funny, but she wasn’t feeling well. Drs. A & B don’t know yet, but they will appreciate it I think.
My inspiration for this evil plan is the result of my recent addiction to Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. Yes, I did watch this for the first time when it came out in July. And I did buy it on iTunes. But then they released the soundtrack and I can’t stop listening. I loved the idea that Joss Whedon et al decided to create something so fabulous during the writers’ strike. These creative people proved that you don’t need a 4 million dollar budget and you don’t need a union contract to bring an idea to fruition.
The reason I keep buying Dr. Horrible media goes back to the microeconomics class I took freshman year of college. It’s where I learned about Dollar votes. The idea is that every time you spend a dollar, you are demonstrating your support for a whole host of entities. Is it plastic? (vote ‘yes’ for petroleum products). Is it made in China ?(vote ‘yet’ to move manufacturing outside the USA). Is it garbage that you’ll ignore or dispose of in 60 seconds? (vote ‘yes’ for more landfill!)
What I’d like to see is a little less hoopla about party politics and a little more consciousness about the smaller choices we all make every day. Last year, my family committed to only giving gifts that are made by hand (particularly by ourselves). We also voted ‘no’ to garbage entertainment by canceling cable television. What else are we voting for?
With our dollar votes, we vote ‘yes’ for Joss Whedon and his compatriots to rule the world.

Interesting premise!
I gotta say the last picture reminds me of that Monty Python skit with the giant cat–the city is safe–but at what cost?
Amen to end the political fighting. I am not usually one to wish time away but I can’t wait for the middle of November, election will be over, no more commercials, complaining and analysis will be done. I agree we can make a huge difference in our everyday lives based on the choices we make. Has your family made a committment this Christmas for all hand made items? Last years items were great. Hope you and your family are well.
