Felix Neck and crochet madness
Jul 7th, 2008 by jennifer
Felix Neck is a nature sanctuary on Martha’s Vineyard. The cables in this cowl remind me of the patterns made by the branches of the brush there.
It’s knit in deliciously soft Martha’s Vineyard Fiber -color: Chilmark, that I bought at the Farmers’ Market during our recent visit. I’m not sure if I’ll add an edging to it, may be a i-cord or a twisted i-cord because it would give it a more finished look. I used up every last bit of this skein and don’t have any more of this color. The cables make the cowl stand up a bit, but because the yarn is so soft, the cowl isn’t ridgid. Besides, in the winter, I like to have wooly softness near my face because it gives me the illusion that I still have the bedcovers all pulled up around my sleepy head. Here are pictures of both me and Jessye wearing it (a pure coincidence that we both bought the same eyeglasses!).
Every once in a while I go on a crocheting jag. It’s happening again. I’ve crocheted many, many of the shopping bags, including one for Mark — the Man Bag. In natural, black, and grey camo, it’s perfect for a trip to Home Depot.
I’m also crocheting an empire top in Lion Brand microspun and the Circles to Squares Afghan in Vanna’s Choice. I’m not sure why I feel completely comfortable crocheting in unnatural fibers. I rarely, if ever, knit anything but wool, silk, or cotton. Maybe it takes me back to those afternoons in 5th grade when Katherine Dexter and I would crochet and talk. Yes it’s true, I was a yarn geek even back then.
Now for a gratuitous caffeine photo:
Mark’s taken to brewing Turkish coffee on his backpacking stove. We have a gas stove in the kitchen, but there’s something about making it in whatever room we find ourselves that is amusing. Here he’s making it on top of the chicken coop that sits in the middle of the main room in our house. It’s nice to be able to caffienate without leaving my projects.

That turkish coffee set up almost looks like you’re brewing illicit things
LOVE that neckwarmer. The yarn is beautiful and I really dig that wandering cable.
