Rainy Days are for Knitting
Jul 18th, 2007 by jennifer
Unless you have a full-time job. Then rainy days are for wishing you could nap at your desk, and for plotting your snacking opportunities, and maybe for a little bit of blog catch up.
I finished the kool-aid baby socks, using the yarn left over from the Stansfield socks. Baby socks are quick and amusing, sort of like eating potato chips. You know you were eating/knitting, but you don’t really remember eating/knitting. And you’re often left with grease spots/bits of yarn on your clothing. In a fit of nostalgia, I used my scary pointy German double points to knit these socks.
Zokni’s are still on the needles and they will be for a while because I’ve been distracted by other knitting.
Mark wants a vintage baseball sweater in the color of his team so Jess and I went to Kent and bought some yarn. They didn’t have the enough skeins in the right color so we settled on Cascade Ecological wool (for that ye olde handmade feel) with the intention to dye it.
Each hank is 478 yards and let me tell you, when it’s not tied off properly, bad things can happen. Some of it is rolled up now, and the knitting has begun.
As of Monday morning.
As of Monday night (and yes, there were 10+ hours of work in between). This is great evening knitting. Great swaths of stockinette stitch, mindless knitting. We were watching a show on Discovery about a new mummy in Egypt. Don’t you just love Zahi?
Back in June, I fulfilled Jessica’s request for a Mr. Rogers sweater. I used a vintage pattern she bought for me on Martha’s Vineyard. It was my first saddle shoulder sweater and after a few choice words while doing the finishing work, I got in the groove. The sweater is all blocked and ready to go except for the buttons. I bought the buttons. I have them with the sweater in a basket. I’ll put them on soon. Really. As for the fit, this is what Jessica wanted. She wanted an oversized men’s cardigan, as if she took father’s sweater, so she could wrap up in it. Well, she’s got plenty of room.
Tonight, Jess and I are going to Kent for their knit night. I’ll take my sweater with me so I won’t have to read any charts while we socialize. Jess is going to hunt for a new project to start. It should be great fun.

The lavender lace socks are very pretty! and WOW you are a FAST knitter!! The Button down (Mr. Rogers) sweater is so pretty and cozy and the red is moving along at lightning speed! (I recently had to throw out a skein of Lornas Laces that I overdyed without tying properly - it was SO tangled that I just flipped and threw it away!)
Can’t wait to see the baseball sweater. I think there are woefully too few men’s patterns out there that are any good. Or maybe my husband is just too picky…
I love the color of Jessye’s Mr. Rogers’ sweater. And comfortable looking.
